Good morning. This week’s tariff turmoil dominated the news and left businesses, consumers and even seasoned analysts scratching their heads. Between shifting trade policies, surprise announcements and the ripple effects on prices and supply chains, it’s been hard to keep up - let alone understand who’s actually benefiting or bearing the brunt.
The chaos has given rise to a new “___ is a recession indicator” meme. They’ve become a way for people to joke about specific and often deeply personal signs that the economy might be in trouble.

Sabrina Ortiz, formerly news and features editor at ZDNET, is now senior editor at AI at the same outlet.
Alex Halverson, business reporter at The Seattle Times, is moving to the Big Tech beat at the same newspaper. He replaces Lauren Rosenblatt, who has moved to the Boeing and aerospace beat.
Scott Thurm, formerly senior editor at The Information, is retiring.
Louise Story, formerly executive at The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, is now editor in chief at Atlas Obscura, brought on “to shepherd the travel brand through its next phase of product and community expansion,” per Adweek.
Sam Rullo, formerly director, editorial operations at Bustle Digital Group, is now director, project management at NBC, working on digital and technical projects in the entertainment marketing department.
Monica Burton, formerly deputy editor at Eater, is now deputy real estate editor at The New York Times.
Layoffs were announced this week at Quartz, which has laid off nearly its entire editorial staff.
